What Do We Offer?

At Horse Haven we offer a variety of practices, from basic riding for the complete novice through to advanced riding, jumping and dressage. Standards set here are of the highest caliber, in teaching and safety where due attention is given to each individual's needs. One of our main popular attractions within the community is our KIDZ Club lessons, which are now held throughout week including the hot spaces of a Saturday and Sunday. Not forgetting our successful internal Pony & Riding Clubs which take place during the week. More details are below on how to become a member. However our aim at the end of each lesson is to make sure that you have learnt something and had fun, which is the most important thing to remember!

Horse Haven has Riding School licenses to operate from two Regional Councils, including North Lanarkshire Council.   All members of Horse Haven staff are professionally qualified to the highest levels.

All Horse Haven Instructors have qualifications ranging from UKCC Coaching, ABRS, BHS Trek Leader, BHS Stages and BHS A.I.'S

BHS I.I. is available on request.

All staff have Scottish Enhanced Disclosures and at all times when a rider is mounted there is a qualified First Aid member of staff on duty.

  • Lessons are conducted on a very personal basis with no more than 6 pupils (with 1 reserve) at anyone time in a group lesson.   This means a more defined and precise lesson to the customer.
  • Choose from a range of lessons available (examples are below), prices start from £5.00/per session (a special offer booked via your primary school).   There also discount packages available @ 20% and 10% reductions.
  • All lessons are structured with Riding Plans for the month and are available to view from your Instructor or at the Horse Haven Office.
  • Lessons are instructed by Horse Haven Staff with enthusiasm and consideration.  each time a rider rides with Horse Haven their riding is assessed and each week the instructors from Horse Haven nominate riders who have worked well in their lessons and shown significant improvement.  The pupils who are awarded the 'Rider of the Week' are entered into an accumulator for the "Rider of the Year" Senior and Junior which is awarded each December and comes with a very coveted trophy.
  • Please Note. The starting age for any child learning to ride at Horse Haven is 5 years old to join in any of the classes or clubs listed.

The class is split into 2 sections where 4 pupils have 30 minutes intensive riding and the other 4 pupils learn basic knowledge of the pony and stable. Level 1 is a course that runs for 12 weeks. Once complete the pupil depending on age and skill will either graduate to KIDZ CLUB Level 2 or commence basic riding classes

KIDZ CLUB (C) Levels 2 & 3

Levels 2 & 3 continue on from KIDZ CLUB Level 1 in 12 week sections. Class size structures remain the same as at level 1. Graduating depending on the pupils skill; they will either move up to KIDZ Club Level 3 or commence basic riding classes. On completion of KIDZ CLUB Level 3 graduates move onwards to start basic riding classes.

1 Hour Group Riding Lesson for the Complete Novice

This section is completely age and skill dependant. Novice riders can be lead reign brought forward, or adults wishing to learn to ride. Each class is restricted to 8 pupils for the hour lesson. All classes are structured in a manner to bring forward the pupil to be independently able to walk, trot and basic canter.

Intermediate and Advanced Riding Lessons

We offer 30 minute and 1 hour group and private lessons for all standards or riders.  Whether your aim is to participate in a specific discipline, or exam, or you just want to improve your overall riding skills, we have lessons to suit everyone.   Our group lessons follow a specific programme depending on the age, experience and particular interests of the rider, whereas in a private lesson, the rider may make a request as to what the aim of the lesson will be.   We have a variety of horses and ponies so we can provide a challenge to any standard of rider.   You are also very welcome to bring and ride your own horse in any of our lessons.

What to Wear

What Should I Wear?   If you have not ridden before, or at least for sometime, please note the following requirements for riding at Horse Haven Riding School.

Hats.    Hats must comply to the current B.S.I standard (BSEN 1384/PAS015) and must carry a British kite mark; they must be worn when mounted correctly fitted and fastened. We can loan you a hat for your first few lessons. It is expected that you have your own hat by the time you join a group lesson.   If you have a riding hat, bring it along and ask in the office for it to be checked that it meets current standards – this is for your safety.   PLEASE BE VERY CAUTIOUS ABOUT PURCHASING HATS FROM LOW COST SUPERMARKETS. THEY ARE NOT KITE MARKED AND WILL NOT HAVE BEEN PROFESSIONALLY FITTED. EVEN THE MOST EXPENSIVE OF HATS ARE USELESS IF INCORRECTLY FITTED.

Hi Viz Gear
.
Horse Haven Riding School  we operate on a split site and also conduct hacks, you are required to wear Hi Viz clothing at all times when riding or leading on the road.   We are able to loan Hi Viz clothing , however, we would encourage you to purchase your own.   Please ensure that your Hi Viz gear is both fluorescent and reflective – BE SAFE BE SEEN!

Footwear
.
Riding boots or Jodhpur boots ideally should be worn, however, any closed toe flat shoe or boot with a smooth sole and a small heel would be acceptable.   Trainers are not acceptable, so please don’t turn up in them expecting to ride.   They are unsafe. RIDING IS NOT PERMITTED IN TRAINERS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

Lower Body
.
Thick leggings or trousers that offer freedom of movement. Jeans have been known to cause friction.   Legs must be covered at all times i.e no shorts or skirts.

Upper Body
.
Clothing should be suitable for the weather conditions. Arms should be covered no riding will permitted in vest type tops no matter how hot.   We recommend body protectors to be worn whilst mounted.   Please ensure that body protectors are professionally fitted and meet current safety standards.

Hands
.   We strongly recommend that riding gloves are worn whenever riding.

Jewellery
.   No jewellery should be worn whilst riding or handling horses. The only exceptions are the wearing of a wedding ring and watch.

Ultimately it is your responsibility to be dressed correctly in accordance with the above information before riding.

If you wish to make a complaint over your own or your Childs lesson.   Put the complaint in writing (with your name, address and telephone number) and hand it to the Senior member of Horse Haven Staff on duty.

The complaint lodged will be investigated by Horse Haven Senior Staff and if upheld an appointment will be made for you where we will deliver our findings.

Unforeseen incidents can take place during lessons which we have no control over as horses and ponies can react unpredictability.  This in turn may mean a lesson may run late.    Do not under any circumstances complete the following.

                1.             Deposit your child and leave, you are abandoning your child without due care.   Stay with your child until the instructor (s) come back to the Office.  Pay your fees for the lesson and only then can you proceed to sit in your car or
the chalet and await for their lesson to complete.
                2.             Enter the stable premises and take a horse or pony out of its stall.  This is strictly prohibited - you have been warned.
                3.             Wander around Horse Haven premises without escort or being asked to proceed to the indoor arena in an orderly fashion
                4.             You are in breach of our Health and Safety protocols if you proceed with any of the above points.

If a lesson runs over,  your lesson times will be accordingly adjusted when starting and finishing.  In the event of this happening, stay with your child/ward until you have paid for the lesson.   Do not under any circumstance abandon your child / ward

Our Staff are here to help you and we will most certainly not tolerate aggressive or abusive behaviour.

Abusive and aggressive customers and members of the public who behave in this manner
will be asked to immediately leave the premises, forfeiting any further and future lessons or loan at Horse Haven Riding School.
